What's Happening in 3rd Grade
Welcome Letter from Miss Berryman:
August 23,
2010
Dear Parents,
Welcome to my
classroom! I am so
excited to have your child in my class this year.
I want to tell you a little bit about myself and give you a
heads-up on some of my classroom procedures.
As you already
know my name is Ashley Berryman or “Miss B”.
I was raised in Chesterfield County where I developed a
passion for working with children.
I am an alumnus of Thomas Dale High School and Virginia
Commonwealth University.
My mother is a Chesterfield County teacher and my father is a
retired engineer. I have
two brothers, one of whom is a proud United States Marine and the
other a junior at TDHS.
I recently became engaged to James Hawkins who I will wed in June
2011. This is my third
year teaching at B.A. where I also serve as the Varsity/Junior
Varsity Cheerleading coach.
In addition to teaching and coaching at B.A., I also teach
dance and cheerleading at Emporia School of Dance.
I strive to
create a classroom whose environment is both loving and educational
while fostering each child’s desire to learn.
I also believe “All
Children Can Learn!” With the use of differentiated instruction,
your support and cooperation, we can make this a great year.
Classroom
Rules and Discipline:
All students
are expected to follow classroom and school procedures, guidelines,
and rules. Many forms of
positive reinforcement and incentives will be utilized in the
classroom. However, when
students fail to meet these expectations, consequences will be
given. I will be using a
color chart method to document student conduct.
·
1 warning- child will receive a verbal warning
·
2 warnings- child moves to yellow - loses 5 minutes of recess/free
time
·
3 warnings- child moves to blue - loses 15 minutes of recess/free
time
·
4+ warnings- child moves to red - loses entire recess/free time and
a note will go home that day
Homework:
Homework will
reflect the concepts and skills worked on at school.
The purpose of homework is to have the student review and
practice these skills at home to assist with mastery and retention.
Homework may or may not be sent home daily.
A list of the day’s assignments will come home each night in
your child’s planner.
This is meant to be a daily communication tool between school and
home. Please discuss it
with your child and check if there is any homework to be completed.
I will not accept late homework.
Classroom
Parties and Field Trips:
Our party
schedule is being completed, look for a sign-up sheet to come home
soon. Once I have
received all volunteer slips regarding our classroom parties, I will
compile a “finalized” list and send home to you.
When field trips occur, I will send home volunteer sheets, at
that time. If you wish
to have a birthday party for your child at school, please let me
know at least a week in advance so that I can arrange our classroom
schedule to accommodate.
Classroom
Parent Involvement Policy:
I welcome
your comments and ideas in my classroom and look forward to your
participation in parties and on field trips.
Due to recent changes in the school’s policies, ALL
parent-teacher conferences must be by appointment only.
The best way to contact me is through email, but if you need to, you
may call the school and leave a message. I will return your call as
soon as possible. Please check our classroom website weekly for
updates and special events. I am looking forward to a great year.
Sincerely,
Ashley
Berryman
